My name is Rachel Seidman and I am the current president of this amazing sorority.  Alpha Epsilon, or AE, prides itself on the six values of sisterhood, friendship, Judaism, scholarship, philanthropy and integrity.   Throughout the entire sorority, one thing is always constant, the love that is shared with everyone. 

The feeling of sisterhood flows throughout the sorority.  We have had some amazing sisterhood trips, where we have gone to Monterey, San Francisco, Six Flags, and Disneyland just to name a few.  We also do smaller events as wells such as having dinner and movie nights, beach days, and even much needed study breaks during dead week.  But for us, we don’t need an event to hang out.  AE girls hang out outside of the sorority, whether it’s catching a movie, getting coffee, or even just hanging out on campus during breaks.  The friendship that is there is something that is indescribable.

The sisters of Alpha Epsilon not only enjoy spending time with one another, but with the San Luis Obispo Community as a whole, which we do through our dedication to community service.  Alpha Epsilon has helped out at so many different places.  We have worked at food banks, done beach clean ups, collected school supplies for Pacheco Elementary school, and participated in Relay For Life.  In 2010 we received the President’s Community Service Award, given to us by past Cal Poly President, Warren Baker.  It was a big honor for us and we look forward to continuing our excellence in community service.

We also make an impact on our Cal Poly community.  It takes a lot of skill to be able to manage school work and being in a sorority, but these amazing women take it to the next level and are involved in so much more.  Many of the girls are involved in different clubs throughout campus and many of them serve positions in those clubs as well.  We also have girls who are in the music program, play intramurals and are Week Of Welcome Leaders.       

Throughout my past two and a half years here at Cal Poly, Alpha Epsilon has had the biggest impact on my life.  I never would have imagined the wonderful opportunities that this group would lead me to.  Given the chance I would make the same choice over and over again.  Every single one of the women in this group continues to impress me every single day.  I feel so honored to call them all my sisters.  To quote one of my favorite musicals for all of my sisters, “because I knew you, I have been changed for good”.
